Marián Č u n d e r l í k was born on 31st January 1926 in Motyčky near Banská Bystrica, and died tragically on 1st October 1983 in Demänovská dolina. In 1946 he started studying at the Slovak Technical College in Bratislava (professor Mudroch) and in 1948 – 1953 he continued at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava, at the department of Monumental painting (professors Fulla and Želibský). In 1957, he participated in the breakthrough exhibition of the young generation of artists in the exhibition hall on the Dostojevského rad street in Bratislava. Together with E. Spitz, he established the Gallery of Cyprián Majerník in Bratislava, where he held his first individual exhibition in 1958 (closed down only several hours after the vernissage). He was one of the participants of the non-public Confrontations, where the so-called Accession 1961 program was formed (1961, 1962, 1963). In 196, he participated in the 5th Confrontation in the Gallery of Cyprián Majerník and in the following years, he was involved in the most important domestic and foreign exhibitions of the contemporary Slovak art. After expulsion from the Association of Fine Artists (1972) he left Bratislava and lived in seclusion in Demänovská dolina valley in the municipality of Tri studničky.
